Peruvian Jewelry Artisans Keeping Traditions Alive with Handmade Silver Jewelry

When I walk into a big-box store, or even a department store, I am always sadly disappointed with the random jewelry that glares back at me. When I wear jewelry, I don’t want it to blend in with the rest of me. Now, it isn’t garish or tacky that I’m looking for, however, when I wear jewelry, I want it to tell a story. Handcrafted jewelry does that. I’ve bought handmade pieces that are rich in feature and heritage. Handcrafted pieces take more time and devotion from the artist than mass-made items. I look for jewelry with history; sterling-silver, with stones and accents that speak of their homeland, made in a tallere by a Jewelry Artisan who has learned from a parent, who learned from their parents. I want handcrafted jewelry that resonates not just with me, but to tell me where it came from.
